How to claim when you’ve suffered from Whiplash

You don’t have to have been in a high speed collision to suffer from whiplash – it can happen at speeds as low as 5mph. All it takes is a force strong enough to throw you forwards sharply and then back again as you come to a sudden stop.

If you've been involved in a collision with another vehicle any time in the last three years, especially if you've been hit from behind, and you're suffering (or have suffered) from any of these symptoms:

  • Pain and stiffness of the neck, extending up to the head and down to the shoulders
  • Headache
  • Numbness or tingling in the arms going down into the hands
  • Low back pain
  • Dizziness
  • Mental problems, such as poor concentration, memory or mental performance
  • Tiredness
  • Ringing in the ears or tinnitus
  • Blurred vision

... you may be able to claim compensation.

Most whiplash injuries heal over a period of weeks and the pain and other symptoms gradually recede. However a few people have ongoing problems such as headaches, stiffness and reduced mobility, tingling and other sensations in the arms or legs, tiredness from interrupted sleep and can suffer from mild depression. In extreme cases it can even result in long term disability.

The Association of British Insurers reports that 200,000 people suffer from whiplash injury every year in the UK and 20% of people involved in rear-end collisions suffer from this injury.

If you think you've suffered from a whiplash injury, firstly, visit a doctor immediately and get checked out and, secondly, if whiplash is diagnosed, call our specialist team on our freephone number 0800 612 8899 and find out what can be done to give you financial support whilst you recover.
